7 Essential Elements Of T-Shirt Brand Creation

Jun 27, 2022

If you're confused by where to start when it comes to branding your t-shirt business, listen up!

I'm going to share with you seven essential elements of t-shirt brand creation.

So let's just jump right in...

#1 - DETERMINE YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE OR NICHE

This is really where you start. Who are you creating your t-shirts for? Are they pet lovers, do they like knitting and cruises. You can get very specific with this. What you're going for is an audience that you can relate to, is underserved by existing t-shirt brands online and is still large enough to be lucrative.

#2 - CREATE A BRAND PERSONALITY

Are you gonna be fun? are you gonna be funny? Sarcastic? Political? Emotional? Goofy? If your brand were a person then how would you want others to describe them? The personality you choose should reflect in all your public facing content (i.e. website, social media, blogging) and in your shirt designs.

#3 - CHOOSE A BRAND NAME

Now when it comes to choosing a brand name, there are three things I recommend keeping in mind:

One, make it easy to spell.

Two, make it easy to say.

Three, make it easy to remember.

It should go without saying to ensure you can get the website address and social media handles for the brand name you choose!

#4 - COME UP WITH A SLOGAN

Make it short, catchy and relatable for your niche. So an example of this would be one of the most famous slogans in the world, which is Nike's "Just Do It".

#5 - DECIDE ON THE LOOK AND FEEL OF YOUR BRAND

So what font do you want to be synonymous with your brand? What color do you want to be synonymous with your brand? Make it expressive and reflective of your brand, but make sure to keep things readable.

By knowing this early, it is really going to help you when you're designing your website and setting up all of your social media.

#6 - DESIGN A LOGO

You can do this yourself in "Canva" or in "Adobe Illustrator", but if you don't have design experience and you just don't want to deal with it I definitely recommend outsourcing it to somewhere like "Fiverr" or "Upwork".

#7 - COMPETITOR RESEARCH

Knowing your competitors is very very important. If you know where your target audience is hanging out, this can be a wealth of knowledge and insight into your ideal customer avatar.

So once you've established these seven elements you'll be well on your way to creating a successful brand that you can be proud of. Remember that it is also important to realize that brand building is agile and always evolving, so it doesn't stop when you've created your logo, your slogan or even launched your brand. As you build up your customer base, learn about who they are, and how best to speak to them you'll be surprised by how much your brand changes over time.

My last parting thought: your customers and their feedback are critical to the success and growth of your brand, so be very open to adapting and evolving throughout the brand journey.

SUMMARY

If you're lost at where to start on creating your t-shirt brand, then start with the seven essentials of t-shirt brand creation: find the right niche, decide on the brand personality, choose an easy to say and easy to remember brand name, come up with a memorable slogan, decide on aesthetics of your brand, design your logo, and do not forget to do your competitor research!
